A HORSE thought to be pulling a cart has been involved in a road accident with a motor vehicle in Sunderland.

The crash happened near to The Grange Hotel, on Newcastle Road, in Fulwell, shortly before 6.30pm on Monday.

An eyewitness told the Echo that it looked as though the vehicle involved was a van, and that the horse had been pulling a cart.

The incident was reported to police by a passing ambulance crew, who spotted the aftermath of the smash.

However, officers were not initially asked to attend the incident.

Northumbria Police were unable to confirm the type of vehicle involved, but said there were no suggestions of any injuries.

It is believed that the horse also escaped injury as a vet had not been asked to attend.
