A horse had to be rescued by police after it galloped down the middle of a busy Sunderland road,
Officers were called to the A690 near Rainton Bridge Industrial Estate in Houghton-le-Spring at 1.10pm, today.
The horse had been seen wandering at the side of the road.
It was later captured by officers who managed to get the horse to safety.
One onlooker said: “The horse darted down the middle of the road. Cars had stopped on both carriageways.
“A police officer bravely stood in its way and managed to grab a rope that was tied to the horses neck. He then tied it to a lamppost.
“It was all over quite fast.”
