Horrible Histories author Terry made his debut as a performer six decades ago at the High Street West theatre and now he’s returning with the stage show adaptation of his hugely successful book series.

He will play the role of Zeus the King of the Greek Gods for the Sunderland Empire leg of the Groovy Greeks tour.

Hendon-born Terry said: “My voice has been touring with the show based on my Horrible Histories Groovy Greeks book as I pre-recorded the voice of Zeus. I made my debut as a performer at the Sunderland Empire about 65 years ago.

“When I saw this year’s tour of Groovy Greeks ends its run at the Empire I begged the producer to let me appear on that stage in person. There can’t be many Sunderland City Ambassadors who’ve appeared there as an actor.”

Birmingham Stage Company is returning to Sunderland with its new Horrible Histories stage shows, Incredible Invaders and Groovy Greeks, from July 12-16.

As with the company’s previous Horrible Histories productions the shows use actors and 3D Bogglevision special effects.
