Hopes fading for missing boy after Wear plunge

HOPES of finding a missing schoolboy alive are fading as police widen their search.

Ian Thomas Bell, eight, of Sunnybrow, fell into the river on Friday near the Brown Trout pub.

Durham Police have recruited specialist underwater cameras from Derbyshire police to try and find him.

But as officers today extend their search downstream towards Durham and Chester-le-Street, police said hopes of finding Ian alive are slim.

Chief Inspector Graham Milne said: “We are in day four of the search and so hope of finding him alive fade as days pass, but there is always a bit of hope as we are all human.”
