A FISHERMAN had to taken to hospital with the help of a lifeboat after injuring his hand out at sea.

The 32-year-old got a barbed hook stuck in his hand on a fishing carter vessel three miles east of the coast at 8.25am today.

Sunderland RNLI’s Atlantic 85 boat was alerted by HM Coastguard and went out to meet the boat, with two of its casualty carers then climbing on board to offer help as it made its own way back to port.

The lifeboat then escorted the vessel back into Sunderland Marina, with the injured man then taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital by his dad.
