A SUPERMARKET was evacuated and roads closed off by police after a suspicious call was made to the store.

The management at Asda in Peterlee took the decision to ask customers to leave at about 1pm yesterday after the call, which the company later confirmed was a hoax.

Police vehicles then blocked off the entrances to the store, in the Castle Dene Shopping Centre. The closure also caused traffic delays in the town centre while police dealt with the report.
