CHILDREN got the chance to tell Santa exactly what they want in their stockings this Christmas.
The Friends of Rectory Park, in Houghton, opened a grotto in the tithe barn for youngsters in the area to get into the festive spirit.
Volunteers came dressed as snowmen, Christmas puddings, robins and fairies as well as reindeer.
Edith Corney, from the Friends group, said: “We had some great fun and the crowds loved it.
“It went so well we had to stay open through our lunch as at times the queue was so long.
“They all asked us if the Friends are going to do this every year.
“We can’t wait to do it next week, too.”
The Friends are hoping to gather more support over the coming months to turn the barn into a coffee and ice cream parlour and heritage centre for the town.
The grotto will be open to visitors this Saturday, with a charge of £1 per child to meet Santa.
