Hetton Local and Natural History Society is hosting a special event on Monday, January 11, with Julie Stobbs, the former Ecologist and director of Durham Wildlife Trust and Wear River Trust. Julie will speak on 40 years of nature conservation in County Durham. Everyone is welcome in the Hetton Centre at 6.30pm. For more information, contact Alan Jackson at alan.t.jackson@hotmail.com

The 36 (Hetton) Squadron Air Cadets members held their annual presentation evening with the achievement awards presented by Squadron Leader Chris Miller, Flt Lt Rick Fiskel, Hetton Town Mayor, Councillor Juliana Heron, Bob Parrish, squadron founder, and guests, including Councillor Bob Heron, Honorary President of the Squadron, Councillor Doris Turner and Wing Padre Paul Harper. Many thanks to all who donated raffle prizes which raised funds for the squadron.

Friends of Hetton Lyons Country Park’s next meeting will be an EGM, specifically to amend the constitution, and to plan events for this year. It will be held on Thursday, January 28, at 6pm in the Hetton Centre. All members should have received a copy of the proposed new constitution, if they wish to add/amend any of the proposals, send them to fhlcp@gmail.com before the meeting. www.hettoncountrypark.wordpress.com .New members are welcome to attend, if they have ideas for events. Members are always keen to hear new ideas.

All at Eppleton Cricket Club would like to wish members and the local community a Happy New Year for 2016. Eppleton’s season in the Premier Division begins on Saturday, April 16, when it will take on the Durham Cricket Academy at the Emirates ICG.
