Congratulations to Eppleton CC 1XI team who won the North East Premier League Division 1 last week and will be promoted to the Premier Division next season. Well done to all players and to John Smithson and Mike Hoban for their help all season.

Friends of Hetton Lyons Country Park have been awarded a £1,000 grant by North of England Horticultural Society Improving Our Landscape category. The funds will be used to plant bluebell woodland areas and wildflower walks in the country park to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the official opening. There are plans to buy a pond dipping platform to be erected on Blossom Pond to enable children to discover and enjoy the wildlife of the pond. Hetton Primary School designed posters informing the public about litter, not feeding the swans and ducks with bread, and cleaning up after dogs. These posters will be displayed in the park. Friends will meet on Thursday at 6 pm in the Visitor’s Centre.

The Hut at Moorsley will be hosting a Macmillan Cancer Support World’s Biggest Coffee Morning on Friday from 10am to noon. There will be a raffle and a spot the cake competition plus lots of cakes, pies, tea and coffee. Everyone is welcome to the event.

Rainton Meadows Wildlife trust is hosting a guided tour with Durham Wildlife Tour with Hetton Local and Natural History society on Monday, September 28, at Rainton Meadows, Rainton, at 3.15pm. Anyone who would like transport to Rainton Meadows, meet at Hetton Community Hall car park at 2.45pm.There will be a £1 fee. For more information, contact Alan Jackson at alan.t.jackson@talktalk.net.
