Well done to Eppleton Under-13s who defeated Horden by nine wickets to win this year’s Durham Cricket Board Bowl Cup Final. Great effort by the whole team. Big thanks to managers Ian Carr and Paul Tipton for all their help this season.
On Saturday, a Dragon Boat Race will be held in Hetton Lyons Country Park from 10am-4pm. Come along and cheer the teams along, it should be a great day out. Entry is free. There will be a beer tent and and outside catering, so you can stay all day. There will be a selection of tents to visit: Durham Wildlife Trust, Hetton Local and Natural History Group, and The Friends of Hetton Lyons Country Park. The Friends group would like you to visit its tent where there will be various stalls selling cakes . There will be a bottle draw for over 18s only and a raffle. There will also be activities for children, vintage vehicles on show for car enthusiasts, and many other attractions. All proceeds to go to future projects for the local community in the park. The 36th Squadron Hetton Air Cadets will be assisting and there is an opportunity to sample fishing on Stephenson’s Lake.
Hetton Blacksmith Shop is holding Heritage open days on Saturday and Sunday from 10am-2pm. Everyone is welcome to go along to this free event and watch owner John Guy demonstrate traditional skills and have a chat about his work and the history of one of the oldest buildings in Hetton.
ELCAP will be holding a Punk Night at Hetton Social club on Saturday at 7.30pm with local musicians Mick Hall and James Thoroughood. There will also be three groups on the night, The Relitics, Kickback Generation and Uncle Paf. Any money raised on the night will be donated to ELCAP. Entry is £3 and can be paid on the doo
