St Aidan’s Dedication Festival takes place tonight at 7.30pm. The Celebrant will be the Rt Rev Glynn Webster, Bishop of Beverly, and the preacher will be Archdeacon Venerable Stewart Bain. The mass will start with a procession. After the service refreshments will be served in the hall where fellowship and friendship can be shared.

Friends of Sunderland Museum (Fosums) will meet on Saturday, October 8, in Sunderland Museum, Burdon Road, at 2pm. Trevor Thorn will talk about Sunderland in the Roaring Twenties and Troubled Thirties. Visitors are welcome, pay £2.

Victoria Gardens Public House in China Street has been refurbishment. Meals are served from 11.30am and an evening quiz takes place on Thursdays at 8.30pm, charge is £1 per team. For further information, ring 565 8283.

Hendon History Group will meet on Thursday from 5.45pm to 6.45pm at Carnegie Community Corner (former Hendon Library, Villette Road). Speaker will be Janette Hilton on The Sunderland Boy’s Orphanage.

Toddler sessions are held on Tuesdays in Sunderland Minster from 9.30am to 11.30am. Refreshments are available for parents and children.

Donnison School trip to the 1940s event at Pickering on Saturday, October 15, has a few seats still available. Cost is £13 per head. For more details, ring 0191 565 4835.

Eden Cafe has reopened in Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens, Monday to Saturday from 10am to 4.30pm and Sunday from 2pm to 4pm. Friends of Sunderland Museum will receive 10% discount on production of their membership card.
