Sunderland Civic Society will meet in Age UK the Bradbury Centre, Stockton Road, on Thursday at 6pm when Sunderland City Council landscape architects Phil Dorian and Kevin Johnson will talk about their work. Tickets for the Civic Society Christmas party will be on sale at this meeting. Visitors are welcome to the talk, entrance £1.

Friends of Sunderland Museums (Fosums) will meet on Saturday from 2pm to 4pm at Sunderland Museum, Burdon Road. Speaker will be John McManners with a talk entitled Three Sunderland Women. Visitors are welcome, pay £1 at the door.

Book a Christmas tea party for you and your friends (six or over) to celebrate at the Donnison School, a grade II listed building. Cost is £7 per person. Dates available are November 13, 20 and 27 and December 4. Ring 0191 565 4835 to book.

Sunderland Pianoforte Society will meet in the Sunderland Pottery Room at Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens, Burdon Road, on Tuesday, November 17, at 7.15pm for a recital by Grace Yeo. Tickets are £12.50, free for full-time students and £6 concessions.

Sunderland Antiquarian Society will meet in St George’s United Reformed Church, on the corner of Stockton Road, on Tuesday, November 17, at 7.30pm. Doors open at 7.15pm. Speaker will be Maurice Chadwick with a talk on the History of Cleadon Village.

Members of the Sunderland Branch of the knitting and Crochet Guild will demonstrate their skills at Sunderland Museum tomorrow.

Foyle Street Writers meet weekly in Sunderland City Library on Thursdays from 10am to noon. They share ideas and support fellow creative writers.

Sunderland Maritime Heritage is open to the public every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10am to 4pm. Admission is free. It is also open on Satursdays especially for children interested in shipbuilding history. Go along to the visitor centre on Church Street East to see its extensive library and the large scale replica of HMS Venerable and the work recreating a double capstan, the like of which has not been seen on Wearside for more than 200years.

Sunderland Antiquarian Society Archives at the Sunderland Antiquarian and Heritage Centre, 6 Douro Terrace, is open for research Wednesdays from 10am to noon and Saturdays from 10am to noon.
