The next Lovell Lecture will be held on Monday, September 28, from 1pm to 3pm at the Donnison School, Church Walk.

Speaker Stuart Miller will talk Worms, dragons and Assorted Virgins. The Lambton Worm and many other dragon stories are encountered in this quest to explain the origin of these loveable creatures. Entrance is £2.50, members £2, which includes refreshments.

Sunderland Pianoforte Societywill meet in the Sunderland Pottery Room at Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens, Burdon Road on Tueday, September 22, at 7.15pm for its next recital by Riyad Nicolas, Syria’s leading young pianist (International Piano Magazine 2012). Programme will include Bach: Prelude & Fugue, Beethoven: Sonata Op 110, Chopin: Etude Op.25No.11, Paganini-Liszt: Etude No.6, Scarlatti: Sonatas K.466 & K.455, Ravel: Gaspard de la nuit.

The Prophetic Witness Movement International invites you to its meeting in the Marshall Hall, Bethesda Chapel, Tatham Street, on Saturday at 7.30pm. Speaker will be Ian Yates, from Skelmsdale, with a talk about Jacobs Troubles.

Picture the Poet, high quality photographs of living poets, is on loan from the National Portrait Gallery at Sunderland Museum from September 19 to November 29.

Nifty Fifties will meet in Sunderland City Library and Arts Centre on Thursday from1.30pm to 3pm. Speaker will be Maureen Martin with a talk on The Embroideries of Durham Cathedral. Entrance is £2.50, which includes refreshments. Ring 5611235 for further information.

Sunderland Antiquarian Society’s will meet at St George’s United Reformed Church, on the corner of Stockton Road and Belvedere Road, tonight at 7.30pm. Doors open at 7.15pm. Speaker Phil Curtis will talk about Sunderland in 1966. All are welcome. Car park at Gorse Road (free from 6pm) Civic Centre car park is also close by.

At Sunderland Museum tomorrow from 1pmto 3pm, Kath Price and her textile volunteers will give a demonstration of traditional mat making. Just drop in.
