A 1950s summer fair will be held at Donnison Heritage Centre on Saturday, September 5,

From noon-4 pm with cards and prints, jewellery, bric-a-brac, books, cakes, toys and plants stalls, tombola, raffle, races, children’s games, bottle tombola, face painting, photo booth, vintage tearoom, 1950s/60s fashion show, music and dance from the ‘50s (The Canny Bunch Performers), crafts. Beamish will have a 1950s exhibit. Go along dressed up in 1950s-60s outfits and take part in a fashion show, there will be a prize for the best dressed. Entrance is 50p. There will be a Giant Tea Party in Sunniside Gardens on Saturday and Sunday to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of Alice in Wonderland. Activities will include music, food and drink stalls, craft workshops, giant garden games, face painting, performances from Kathleen Davis Dance School, funfair rides.

For their summer outing this year 25, members of the Civic Society saw an exhibition of glass blowing at the National Glass Centre in the morning and took lunch at the Yatch Club. The day ended with a talk by Robert Moon in the Yatch Club.

Members of Friends of Sunderland Museums visited Hartlepool Headland First World War Battery (The Heugh Battery Trust) with a guided tour in the morning.After lunch in the Battery Cafe an interesting guided tour of the Church of St Hilda took place. The day was enjoyed by everyone.

Councillor Michael Mordey will hold a Hendon, East End and part of Grangetown Ward Surgery on Friday, September 4, in Hendon Library from 5pm-6pm.
