SEAHAM and Sunderland are set to get expert advice on boosting the British high street trade.

Although the pair missed out on becoming pilot centres in the Government’s Mary Portas review, the Association of Town Centre Management has launched a £5.5million package of support, which includes £10,000 for each team who applied, plus support from a newly-appointed special advisor for the region.

North East adviser Beth Ward is a former Halifax town centre manager and currently manages all the social media for the National Association of British Market Authorities.

She has also worked for West Wiltshire District Council, where she developed town centre partnerships in five locations.
