A WEARSIDE MP is backing a campaign helping people on low incomes to reduce their energy bills.
Washington and Sunderland MP Sharon Hodgson backed the awareness drive on free heating help available for the poorest households through the Warm Front scheme.
As winter approaches, Consumer Focus, Citizens Advice, Age UK and National Children’s Bureau have come together to promote the scheme.
Mrs Hodgson is urging her constituents to find out if they are eligible for free heating and insulation improvements the scheme offers.
The call comes as new research from Consumer Focus shows that about 425,400 households are in the North East plan to cut back on heating their home this winter due to worries about energy bills.
Despite those worries, millions of pounds worth of help is being left unclaimed under Warm Front.
