Sports stars on their marks to better health

Have your say

TIPS on how to lead a healthier life will be on offer to visitors to a major sporting event tomorrow.

Durham County Council’s Change4life team will have lots of ideas for improving your family’s diet, and getting active during the Durham Dash.

Change4life is supporting the annual event, which will see 500 children from 24 of the county’s primary schools take part in street races around the centre of Durham.

Members of the public are invited to the Market Square from 5pm to watch the races start and pick up recipes, game ideas and ideas for a healthier lifestyle courtesy of Change4life.

The Durham Dash is organised by Durham City School Sport Partnership, which works to develop and deliver physical education and sporting opportunities for young people of school age.

Councillor Lucy Hovvels, the cabinet member for safer and healthier communities, said: “The Durham Dash is a great opportunity for schoolchildren to get involved in Change4life so we are very pleased to be supporting it. We hope events like this, along with other local and national Change4life initiatives, will help families in County Durham find even more ways to ‘move more and eat well’.”

Laura Brown, Durham City School Sport Partnership strategic manager, said: “The dash offers a fantastic opportunity for children to experience what it’s like to take part in a high-level event in the unique location.”
