LOVING grandson Jack Smith got fellow pupils on their marks to help out a heart charity – and his grandma.

The youngster’s grandmother Teresa suffers from heart problems and Jack, with help from little sister Millie, decided to raise cash for the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

Eight-year-old Jack arranged for fellow boys and girls at Newbottle Primary Academy which he attends to take part in a fun run on the school field. Pupils gathered in sponsorship as part of the fun, all of which is set to go towards the BHF’s work to improve the lives of those suffering from heart disease and related illnesses.

Year 1 teacher at the school, Mrs Lee-Shield, said: “This cause means a lot to Jack as his nana has heart problems.

“The school council organised for sponsor forms to be handed out and posters to be put up for the event.

“We were lucky enough to have a beautiful, sunny day for the fun run and all of the children enjoyed taking part.”
