NISSAN worker Michael Clay got into gear for an epic fund-raiser in memory of his brother.

The 41-year-old, who works at the Washington plant, tackled the 150-mile Coast 2 Coast bike ride from Whitehaven in Cumbria to Whitley Bay, North Tyneside in just one day.

Michael set himself the challenge to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support after the death of his older brother Paul to oesophageal cancer last year.

And despite being caught in a thunderstorm, Michael completed his mission in just over 12 hours, backed up by family and friends in a support vehicle supplied by Nissan bosses.

Michael, from South Shields, said: “All in all, I had a brilliant day. And as hard as it was, I enjoyed every minute of it – even the thunderstorm.

“It was a brilliant day and one I’ll remember for a long time to come.”
