CARE home residents showed their generosity by holding an open day to help a Wearside hospice.

Along with assistance from staff, people living at The Grange, in East Boldon, put on the event to generate money for Grace House Children’s Hospice.

A variety of activities took place, bringing in almost £150 for Grace House, which is due to open in Southwick at the end of this year.

Scheme manager Lisa Steel, of The Grange, said: “It’s gone brilliantly.

“We’ve managed to raise £147.80, which we’ll now give to the charity.

“There was a real community feel to the day, which we are pleased about.

“We asked the tenants here which charity they would like to raise money for and I was a little bit surprised when they said Grace House.

“But they felt that they are deserving of the money, because it is children who are really in need of help.”

Residents at the home had an enjoyable afternoon tea before holding a tombola and raffle which raised money towards the total.

Prizes for the competition were kindly donated by businesses in the area.

Lisa added: “One of the residents was a musician before retiring, so he entertained people for the afternoon, which went down really well.

“I’m in no doubt we will definitely be holding an open day like this again in the future.”
