Head-on crash leaves two women seriously injured

TWO women have been badly hurt in a crash on a country lane.

The collision happened on Cocken Road, Leamside, near to the Cocken Lodge Golf Course just after 8.30am yesterday.

It involved a beige Nissan Micra and a red Citroen Saxo.

The driver of the Citroen, a 22-year-old woman from Sherburn Village was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle suffering with leg injuries.

The driver of the Nissan, a 75-year-old woman from Finchale, was taken to James Cook hospital in Middlesbrough suffering with chest injuries.

Both are this morning classed as ‘stable’.

The investigating officer, Pc Andrew Wells said: “I am keen to speak to anyone that may have seen either of these vehicles in the area prior to the collision, or may have witnessed the collision itself.”

Witnesses are asked to contact Durham Constabulary on the non-emergency number of 101, asking for the Collision Investigation Unit.
