WEARSIDERS can have their say on the next phase of the transformation of Sunderland’s seafront.
The work will aim to improve pedestrian access and safety, and the public consultation starts today.
Sunderland City Council is keen to hear from anyone who is interested in improvements to Whitburn Road, between Morrisons and the Marriott Hotel.
The proposed work includes fresh traffic management measures, junction improvements, widening of footpaths, improved pedestrian crossings and new street lighting.
Cabinet secretary Councillor Mel Speding said: “This is a great opportunity for people to have their say in the next stage of the regeneration of the seafront.
“The draft plans include physical and environmental improvements to Whitburn Road, in line with views expressed during the 2009 seafront consultation. The city council has already invested more than £4million on improvements along the seafront, and the improvements are plain for all to see.”
Draft plans can be viewed online at www.sunderland.gov.uk/seafront or in person at exhibitions in the customer service centre at Fawcett Street and the foyer at Morrisons at Seaburn.
Comment forms will be collected from the supermarket.
