A new window display has been launched in the city's Athenaeum Street William Hill branch to tie in with today's Gold Cup.

It features a 3D racehorse galloping through shop windows and "shattering the glass".

Cern Miralay, of William Hill, said: "Racing is one of the most exhilarating sports in the world but it is difficult to capture the thrills and spills in a poster.

“Gold Cup day is the second biggest day in our calendar and for those who cannot get to Cheltenham, hopefully the window will give them some insight into the raw excitement of horse racing.”

As well as being in Sunderland, the display can also be seen in stores in Birmingham. Coventry, Leeds, London and Manchester.

William Hill alone is expected to take 10,000 bets in the final minute before the off of the Gold Cup at 3.30pm.
