Have you got Sunderland’s scruffiest dog?

Have your say

SUNDERLAND’S scruffiest pooches are being offered a chance to shine.

The hunt is on for shaggy shelties, dirty dalmatians, bedraggled bichon frises and tatty teacup poodles to take part in Scrufts – the Echo’s alternative to Crufts.

A pooch pamper day – worth up to £75 – is on offer to the winner of our canine contest, as well as a bag of tasty doggy treats, courtesy of Sainsburys at Silksworth.

“A clean and tangle-free dog is a healthier and happier dog. It stops them smelling too!” said Linda Stevens, of Creature Comforts Dog Grooming in Middle Herrington.

Linda, a City and Guilds-qualified groomer, is offering a full “spring clean” to the lucky winner of Scrufts – including a bath, brush, trim and blow dry.

“Grooming benefits extend far beyond prettying up your pet. For example, a warm bath helps remove winter dirt and germs, bringing relief from dry, itchy skin,” she said.

“Thorough brushing gets rid of dead hair and dirt too, which can attract parasites or bacteria, while keeping nails and facial hair trimmed is important for a dog’s health.”

l To enter Scrufts simply email Sarah Stoner a photo of your pooch by April 15 at sarah.stoner@jpress.co.uk. If you can’t wait until then to get your dog spring cleaned, contact Linda on 522 9991 or 07986 226813 for prices.
