Hassan puts on a show at Sunderland ABC's 10th anniversary event
Joel Hassan won a unanimous decision and the best boxer of the night award at Sunderland ABC's 10th anniversary show against the Repton Boxing Club.
Hassan showed his class against Aiden Whiting and forced a standing eight count on his way to victory.
Travis Waters (Sunderland) against Alejandro Maya-Mendoza (Repton) was a cracker, with both men going toe-to-toe.
The fight ebbed and flowed with Waters continuing his good progress as a senior with a unanimous decision.
Adam Adil was also impressive in taking a deserved unanimous decision against Repton’s Charlie Scott.
Sunderland’s Ben Weighill was back in action after a lay-off and marked his senior debut with a split decision victory against Nazeem Ley (Repton).
Ley was in attacking mood, but his questionable approach earned him two public warnings.
Colin Fulton was also back after a lay-off and and fought well to claim a unanimous decision against Ahmed Unisa-Jalloh.
There were defeats for Sunderland’s Kelan Sloanes against Harry Johnson, Lennon Campbell on his debut against Leo Lacourt, Jaxon Laws against Shildon’s James Beale, and Ryan Bambrough to Repton’s Thomas Bennett.
The top of the bill fight saw Sunderland’s Luke Ratcliffe take on Repton’s Villius Alsouskas.
Ratcliffe came out with intent, but the Repton man was accurate with the jab and started to take charge and went on to claim a unanimous win.
In the schoolboy championships, Wallace Mcleod (33kg) won the North East title and now goes into the national quarter-finals.
Callum Harrison won the 48kg championship and also goes into the national quarter-finals which will be held at Birtley gym on Saturday.
