Hammer robbers leave worker injured in terror raid on bookies

A WORKER was left with injuries after a terrifying hammer raid on a betting shop.

Police are appealing for information after robbers raided William Hill bookmakers in Front Street, Fencehouses last night.

The incident happened at about 9.50pm when two men entered premises.

One of the men, who was armed with a hammer, approached the counter and demanded that a staff member hand over cash.

He then used the hammer to smash the counter screen and stole an amount of money, the two men then fled the scene.

The staff member suffered a minor injury from the smashed counter screen and was left shaken by the incident.

Both offenders were described as wearing grey clothing and one of them had a grey scarf covering his face.

Enquiries are ongoing into the robbery and police are appealing for information.

Officers will be carrying out high profile patrols in the area throughout Thursday to speak to and reassure residents.

Anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously, or any suspicious vehicles, in the Front Street of Fencehouses around 9:50pm last night is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191 quoting reference number 1100 04/02/15.
