The summer series of gigs will also see headline performances from indie legends James and Jake Bugg.

Taking place in Newcastle city centre in July and August 2017, Live from Times Square, organised by SSD Concerts, will see two weeks of music being performed in the city.

Bugg will perform a headlining spot on the main stage on Thursday, July 27, followed by one of Manchester’s proudest exports, James, on Saturday, July 29.

Following critical acclaim, FAC 51 The Haçienda and Manchester Camerata – the city’s experimental orchestra – are bringing back Haçienda Classical with a brand new soundtrack in what will be their first Newcastle appearance, on Friday, August 4.

Steve Davis, of SSD Concerts, said the organisers are proud to be bringing Live from Times Square back next year. He said: “After the success of last year we were determined to maintain the momentum and give the region’s music fans something bigger and better.

“It’s not easy pulling a city centre gathering of this size together but we are really happy with the line-up and the additional shows which are still to be announced.

“The atmosphere and crowd reaction from last year’s shows are memories we’ll never forget. The city was buzzing and that’s what we want next year.

“On a personal level, James is one of my favourite all time bands and we’re thrilled to have such an amazing and legendary group on board.

“We’ve worked with Jake Bugg from the early days, so his show will be super sweet for us. It will be something else to see him up there on the Live From Times Square main stage.”

Hacienda Classical sees the DJs who shaped The Haçienda’s sound – Mike Pickering and Graeme Park – collaborate with the Camerata for a night of classic dance music.

Graeme Park said: “I am excited about next year’s tour and the new set. I’m currently enjoying digging deep into my huge record collection to find new tracks for 2017’s show.

“There’s such a rich seam of music to mine from the 1980s and 1990s, and it’s immense fun trying to decide what will ultimately make the cut.”

Musical director, conductor and arranger Tim Crooks, adds: “Hacienda Classical with Manchester Camerata in 2016 set a new benchmark for a live show with DJs, singers and orchestra, and we’re still buzzing from entertaining so many people with it. We’re making the show even better for 2017 – it’s going to be epic!”
