Green light for North East Premier League opening weekend

The Dukes North East Premier League season has been given the go-ahead to start on Saturday, despite fears that the wet weather will wipe out the fixtures.

A statement from league secretary Gordon Halliday said: “Following detailed consideration, the NEPL has decided that the scheduled programme of League matches this Saturday and Sunday will go ahead as arranged.

“If no matches start on Saturday then the League Management Committee will decide at its meeting on Thursday, 21 April whether the programme of matches should be rescheduled.

“Similarly, if no matches start on Sunday then a decision will be made on whether that programme of matches should be rescheduled.”
