An entrepreneur with the environment in her heart has been nominated for a business award.

Sharon Lashley runs Enviro UK Consultants, based at the Business Innovation Centre, on the Sunderland Enterprise Park. She joins an ever-growing list of nominations for the Sunderland Echo Portfolio business awards.

I believe I am a truly green business helping other businesses to become green

Sharon Lashley

Sharon said she was “extremely proud” to be based in the city and to be helping other businesses to “prosper, become more sustainable and continue to survive in these challenging times.”

Sharon started her business in July 2013 as an environmental consultant and said: “I have worked tirelessly to build up my company, helping businesses in the Sunderland area and regionally become more responsible for their environmental impact, help improve their green business credentials whilst also saving money.”

Her work includes the installation of solar panels, LED lighting and also helping organisations with their management of waste.

The BIC is one of Sharon’s main clients and she has been a consultant for them in renewable energy and energy efficiency for more than three years.

It also helped Sharon to set up her own firm around two years ago and said they helped her with support and access to a virtual office facility.

This year’s awards will be presented at a ceremony at the Stadium of Light on Thursday, October 15, and entries are open now.

There is still plenty of time for more people nominate in a range of categories.

Make it Sunderland is again our headline sponsor, and will sponsor our overall Business of the Year Award, as well as a Lifetime Achievement award, which is in the sponsor’s gift.

This year sees a new category, also sponsored by Make It Sunderland, which will recognise the contribution social enterprises make to the city.

Sponsors are Gentoo, Stagecoach, Andrew James, Station Taxis, TTR Barnes, Thompson Waste, Sunderland BID and Maxim Facilities Management Ltd, while Sunderland College is our partner sponsor.
