Greatly enjoy the service

As a lifelong bookworm I was interested in Charles Napier's letter (May 20) about ways to acquire books other than from public libraries.

However, I am grateful that despite these days of relentless austerity our council has managed to retain a reasonable number of libraries.

Recently I’ve been housebound because of foot surgery. In advance of my operation I reserved a number of books at the City Library and have so enjoyed reading them during my convalescence.

In my opinion we need to keep our public library service.

So my thanks to our councillors and to our helpful and lovely library staff.
