Blue Watch Youth Centre continues to support young people, aged 16 to 18 , to gain further qualifications and work experience in order to equip them with confidence, employment and social skills to be able to progress into further education, training or employment. It currently offers the study programme (European Social Funded) in partnership with Springboard Trust. Any 16 to 18-year-olds, who are not in education, employment or training, may apply to join.

The programme consists of the AQA Personal Social Education Certificate, and the British Heart Foundation ‘Heart Start Certificate’. In addition, for anyone who does not have a GCSE Grade C in English or mathematics, tutors will provide sessions aimed at helping you to achieve these qualifications up to level 2. Subject to eligibility, daily meal vouchers and bursary payments are available. The programme runs from Monday to Thursday, 10am to 3pm. Recent funding obtained from Virgin Money has led to this opportunity. Drop-in sessions are also available to do job search, complete paper or online applications and construct CVs. For more information, contact Denis Crompton, senior worker at Blue Watch Youth Centre, Burdon Lane, Ryhope, or ring 0191 521 4060, or email: denis.crompton@bluewatchyouth.com
