Ashbrooke resident Kathy Wilson was the guest speaker at The Rotary Club of Sunderland’s weekly meeting on Thursday lunchtime at the Rosedene Hotel, Queen Alexandra Road. Kathy spoke about her visit to Kerala in India where she helped to found an orphanage for boys who previously slept rough. Kathy, a social worker with the City of Sunderland, had originally visited Kerala as a tourist and was very impressed with the beauty of the area but came across the boys on her first visit. Nine visits later and Kathy, with the help of her family, friends and colleagues and other volunteers, has built and partially equipped an orphanage. Rotarian Dr. Sam Raman moved the vote of thanks and said his International Committee would discuss financial support for the orphanage at its next meeting.
