DEVELOPERS have been praised for removing graffiti which blighted the view of an historic monument.

Big bold white letters were shifted from the roof of Topshop in Silver Street, Durham City, directly in the eye line of an iconic view of the castle.

The graffiti was visible from Framwellgate Bridge.

Durham County Council planning enforcement officer Stuart Jobling said: “We would like to praise store operators Arcadia Group for their professionalism and co-operation in removing this blight from one of the most iconic views of the city and the World Heritage Site.

“Local people and visitors now have nothing to spoil this spectacular landscape.”
