GP service is to close

HUNDREDS of Durham residents will lose their local GP service this year.

NHS County Durham announced it is to stop the general medical service it commissions from the Castlegarth Practice in St Margaret’s Health Centre, Crossgate, from the end of March.

The practice serves more than 500 people in the area.

Trust bosses say the service does not represent good value for money and they cannot justify extending the contract after March this year.
