Patients are having trouble getting through to the phonelines of Sunderland’s GP surgeries because of flooding in York.
NHS North of England has said that the problem is due to recent flooding at BT’s York Exchange.
Those affected are being urged to call NHS 111 instead.
A spokesman for NHS North of England Commissioning Support said: “We’re currently experiencing problems with some of the phone lines for GP practices in the Sunderland area.
“This is due to the recent flooding at BT’s York exchange.
“We’re working hard with our communication companies to resolve this problem as quickly as we can.
“In the meantime, please call NHS 111 if you have any difficulties getting through to NHS services.”
