Going to Newcastle? Police say there has been a spate of phone thefts

Police are appealing for witnesses after a spate of phone thefts in Newcastle.

Between midnight on Friday, June 19, and 5am the following morning three phones were stolen in the city centre.

Two phones were stolen in separate robberies near the Civic Centre while a third was stolen near the Haymarket bus station.

A 25-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman have been charged with one count of attempted robbery and two counts of robbery in connection with the incidents.

They appeared at Newcastle Magistrates Court on Monday and were bailed to appear at Newcastle Crown Court on July 6.

But officers are still appealing for any witnesses to contact officers on 101 extension 69691 quoting reference number 302 21/06/15 or independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
