One of the stars of Gogglebox took a break from watching TV to open a revamped Sunderland B&Q store.
Scarlett Moffatt, from County Durham, opened the new look Trimdon Street store.
The store is one of the first in the brand’s chain to be made smaller, and part of the site had been earmarked for Morrisons. Its sister Sunderland store in Ryhope Road was one of the stores axed after the DIY giant announced it didn’t need as many stores due to the rise in online sales.
Scarlett attended the opening of the smaller scale Trimdon Street branch and went head-to-head with store staff to deliver a DIY challenge.
Staff say shoppers can look forward to a new range of items.
Store manager, Luke Hurdiss said: “It’s a huge privilege to have been chosen as one of the first stores to showcase these exciting changes and although it’s been a long few weeks during the lead up, the team and I have enjoyed every single minute of our launch weekend. The icing on the cake was definitely seeing our customers’ reaction when our store’s new look was finally revealed; the feedback has been amazing so far.”
Scarlett said: “I loved meeting the team and looking around the store. The staff are really knowledgeable. I had fun doing the DIY challenge!”
B&Q say the new store will make shopping easier.
