Go walkies in the air with Sunderland Snowdog charity stroll

People and their dogs can help make a difference with a charity walk which will take in the city’s Great North Snowdogs.

The pawsome event will begin at How to Hide a Lion at the Museum and Winter Gardens and will take in Winter Lily in Blandford Street, Aerodog and Day of the Dog at The Bridges, Tails of the Sea in Keel Square, Wonderhound and SAFC Spraydog at the Stadium of Light, Frostbite at the National Glass Centre and will finish at Sparky in Seaburn.

The walk, which is roughly four miles, is the brainchild of Pet’n’Pony who sponsor Sparky and will take place from 9.30am on Sunday, November 20.

Gav Hughes, website manager at the pet and equestrian supplies store in Gilesgate, Durham, said: “As a business we’ve really enjoyed being part of the Great North Snowdogs arts trail, it’s been hugely popular.

“People have been taking loads of selfies with the dogs and it’s a good way of getting people out and about.

“The aim of the trail is to raise funds for St Oswald’s Hospice and we thought this walk would be a great way to raise further funds.

“The idea is a dog walk but even if people who haven’t got dogs want to come along they can. All we ask is that people register beforehand so we have an idea of how many people to expect.”

The walk is free to enter and there is no minimum sponsorship money. There will also be free goody bag giveaway and special prizes along the way.

All of the 61 Snowdogs throughout the region will bow out at close of play on November 20.

The pooches will then be fully groomed ahead of being auctioned off at Sage Gateshead on December 6 to raise funds for St Oswald’s, which is based in Gosforth, Newcastle.

More than 10,715 people have downloaded the special trail app since the trail began, with more than 141,000 dogs unlocked so far.
