Sunderland-born Mustard, 33, has joined the Bristol-based club until the end of the season, and with his Durham contract not being renewed, he will look to stake a claim for a permanent move to Gloucestershire.

Dawson, who sought a keeper following the loss of Gareth Roderick for six weeks, said: “It’s great that Phil has joined us for the rest of the season after Gareth’s injury to his finger.

“He brings with him vast experience and match winning abilities which I’m sure he will show whilst at Gloucestershire.”

Mustard, after 16 years on Durham’s books and 12 limited-overs appearances for England, could make his debut against Surrey tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Durham head north of the Tyne tomorrow when they return to Royal London One-Day Cup action. The Jets, thumped by Northants on Sunday, host Warwickshire in their sixth group game (noon), having won two and lost three so far.
