“We have a jam-packed programme of entertainment for all the people and families of our city to come together to celebrate the commitment that our Armed Forces provide all around the world, all year round,” he said.

“An opening ceremony gets the weekend of celebrations underway at 7pm on Friday, followed by the Armed Forces Day concert, with a patriotic, flag-waving sing along.

“This is for everyone all families are encouraged to attend, for what promises to be a great, free evening.”

One of the highlights of the weekend will see members of the Armed Forces march along the seafront from 12.30pm, followed by a band display and an inspection by a representative of the Queen.
