THE minutes are ticking down to the moment revellers will get their first glimpse of Sunderland’s newest bars - with Geordie Shore stars at their helm.
Ricci Guarnaccio and Jay Gardner, formerly of the hit MTV show, have taken over the lease at Ruba, in Green Terrace, and have turned it into Attico and Verve, which open to tonight.
The effort to get it ready for guests went right down to the wire today, as the finishing touches were put in place after a refit of the venue.
The co-owners are promising to give Sunderland’s nightlife a new buzz with their Champagne and cocktail bars, which they have been inspired by Miami and New York warehouse clubs as well as other clubs they have seen on their globe-trotting travels with the programme.
The pair have promised others from their reality show will be making appearances at the launch, with stars from Big Brother, X Factor and top DJs lined up in coming weeks.
Jay said: “It’s ultra modern.
“It’s something Sunderland has never seen before, it will bring people in to Sunderland that might have gone to Newcastle before and something for local people as well.
“We’ve got exposed brickwork, which gives it that warehouse look, and we’ve got lots of big finishing touches, like the huge mirrors and moving chandeliers, Champagne bucket tables.”
Ricci, who is from Durham, added: “We’ve got two classy places here.
“It’s going to be massive and upstairs we’ve got people who will be able to enjoy a drink out on the decking, so they can be having a pina colada thinking it’s Miami, Florida.

The boys have pledged tonight, which will see doors open at 8pm, people will be able to celeb spot, with paparazzi expected to be out in force.
They say their venture has gained attention from across the world, as people put the bars on their must-visit list on their trips to the region.
Upstairs is Attico, a contemporary champagne bar, with DJs playing a mix of RnB and commercial music.
It will also feature a shisha lounge on the terrace, while downstairs will have a more informal vibe and will play commercial music.
The new businesses, which were also formerly Paddywhacks, will create up to 20 jobs.
Jay, who was an original cast member of Geordie Shore and returned for series six and seven, previously ran a club night at Union in Park Lane, but Attico and Verve will see him run a bar for the first time.
