GENTOO is going green.
The Sunderland housing firm has snapped up Durham-based solar panel manufacturer and specialist glass-maker Romag as it looks to expand its range of environmentally-friendly services.
Gentoo says the move continues its commitment to sustainable development and also means the firm will be able to extend the range of services it offers customers.
Romag currently employs 161 people, who will now transfer over to Gentoo, with the the takeover including the company’s trades and assets.
Gentoo Group chief executive Peter Walls said: “This acquisition brings together two complementary organisations at a time when we are looking to diversify and grow. It will only build upon our already strong environmental credentials.
“We believe the low-carbon market will continue to be a strategic area of growth and this puts us in a unique position to take full advantage of opportunities in our sector.
“Solar energy is a huge agenda with global governmental targets and it is great to be playing a part in it whilst doing our bit for the planet in the process.”
Gentoo will now be working closely with the Romag management team to ensure a smooth transition between the two businesses, he added..
