SPORTY students are in for a treat after receiving a National Lottery cash injection.

A total of £735,000 of investment will fund seven new jobs for full-time sports professionals to act as College Sport Makers in the North East over the next five years, helping students to get involved in sport.

The cash injection comes after research revealed students play the least sport of young people aged 16 and over who are in education.

About 65 per cent of pupils aged 16 and over do sport at least once a week, compared to 53 per cent of higher education students and 50 per cent of college students.
