The online fundraising page, started by a friend of Makayla Lund and John Crompton, last night stood at £10,230 after an amazing show of generosity from the community.

The money will help Makayla and her family who were involved in the tragic car accident in France on Sunday in which John, 31, nine-year-old Morgan Lund and Evie-Lily, aged four, died.

Makayla and her two-year-old son Kyle remain in hospital in France.

In an update on the Go Fund Me website, Laura Austwicke wrote: “AMAZING! We have reached the £10k mark!!!

“Once again the families of Makayla and John would like to give their heartfelt thanks to each and everyone of you for your continuous support, kind words and donations. They are lost for words and forever grateful to you all. The money raised will be a massive help to them at this difficult time.”

Proceeds from the sale of special ribbons made in memory of John, Morgan and Evie-Lily will also go to the family fund appeal.

The ribbons in baby pink and baby blue are available from Material World fabric shop at 129 Stockton Road and cost £1.

More money for the family will be raised later today at an event at Barnard Grove Primary School where Morgan and Evie-Lily went.

A balloon release in memory of the family will take place at 6.15pm.

Lots of other games and activities will also be going on at the fundraiser, which starts from 5pm.

It is being organised by friends of Makayla, Kayleigh Todd and Nicole Readman. Their Facebook group called Thinking of Makayla and her Family has been inundated with offers of support and prizes.

Barnard Grove headteacher Lee Walker earlier said Evie-Lily was “the most kind-hearted and caring girl you could ever wish to meet,” and Morgan “brought life and joy to all”.
