Steve Watts presents Wizards, Goblins and forbidden love a story based on Sir Walter Scott’s ‘The Lay of the Last Minstrel’. This is part of Sunderland Literature Festival 2016 and will take place at Bede’s Bake house, St Peter’s Church, Monkwearmouth, on Thursday, October 20, from 2pm to 3m. Fulwell WI will meet onTuesday, October 18, in Fulwell Community Centre, Chapman Street, at 7.15pm. Edmund Foster will give a short talk on witches. Social time will be Halloween. Top table will be carved pumpkin.

Sunderland Philatelic Society will meet in the hall of Roker Methodist Church, on the corner of Roker Park Road and Lonsdale Road, tomorrow at 7pm. French Cinderellas will be the talk and display by Mr C Grainger. For further information, call Fred Greener on 3852196.

The Wearside Field Club will meet tonight at 7.30pm in Fulwell Community Centre, Chapman Street. This months walk will be Five Parks Newcastle, led by Brian Gray. Meet at Park Lane Interchange at 10am. Bookings will be taken for the November outing to York.

An autumn fair and coffee morning will be held at the Salvation Army, Roker Avenue, on Saturday from 10am to noon. There will be a cake stall, handmade cards, Christmas crafts, toiletries, sweets and refreshments.

Sunderland Illuminations are taking place at Roker Park and along the seafront until November 5. There will be a charge of £1 to enter Roker Park, children aged two and under are free. St Andrew’s will be open on Friday and Saturday from 6pm to 8.30pm for refreshments during the illuminations

All Saints’ Ladies’ Fellowship will meet in the vestry meeting room at All Saints’ Church, Fulwell Road, tomorrow for coffee and cake from 7pm.

Ballroom dancing has re-started at the Naval Club in Roker Avenue on Wednesdays at 8pm. Entrance is £1.50. All are welcome.

Fulwell ward surgery will be held in Fulwell Library, Dene Lane, on Saturday from 10.30am to 11.30am, when ward Councillor Howe, or Councillor Francis will be in attendance.

Tiny Tweeties will be at Fulwell Library tomorrow from 2pm to 3pm. This is a lively music and song session for pre-school children involving puppets, songs, dancing and instruments. The Tiny Tweeties duo have performed on CBeebies and their music resources are used in schools across the globe. Engaging and creative fun for little ones.
