Foster carers raise cash for charities

Kind-hearted foster carers have been raising money for charities across the region.

The carers, from Foster Care Associates (FCA), decided to go without their Christmas gift in 2015, choosing instead to make donations to local branches of national charities.

Foster carer Angela Physick presented a cheque to Louise Simonian, regional fundraiser at Diabetes UK, at the FCA office in Chester-le-Street.

Diabetes UK cares for, connects with and campaigns on behalf of every person affected by or at risk of diabetes.

Angela said: “Diabetes UK is a charity that is very close to my heart.

“During my first year as a foster carer my oldest daughter Joleen was diagnosed with type one diabetes. During this time other foster carers, FCA and Diabetes UK all supported me through this difficult time for my fostering family.

“I have fundraised in the past for Diabetes UK to thank them for their support and this was the only choice for me when I was offered to donate money.”

Diabetes UK was one of six charities chosen by carers to donate money to. The other charities included The Children’s Society and The Rees Foundation.

Louise Simonian, Diabetes UK Regional Fundraiser, said: “I’d like to thank FCA’s foster carers who chose to give up their annual Christmas gift and instead donated the money to Diabetes UK.

“The funds raised will go a long way to helping us care for, connect with and campaign on behalf of the over four million people living with diabetes in the UK.”
