WORK is under way to demolish a former cinema.

The former Horden Picture House, on Sunderland Road, is being pulled down.

It was turned into a bingo hall in the 1960s before closing its doors last February.

Durham County Councillor for Horden, June Clark, 57, said: “I think people will be sad to see it go, it has been an iconic building in the village.

“But, as chairwoman of Horden Regeneration Partnership, we think the owners are being fairly responsible demolishing it and turning it over to new use.

“It would be nice to see other blots on the landscape demolished.”
