WORK is to be carried out to reduce the risk of flooding in a village.
Northumbrian Water is investing £250,000 in South Hetton with the three-month project to start on Monday to help three homes on West Lane.
Work will involve installing 300 metres of sewer pipe in fields to the east of Grasmere Terrace and increasing the size of a further 140 metres of pipe at West Lane, between Windermere Road and Palmer Street.
Paul Davison, the company’s project manager for the works, said: “This scheme will offer some protection for the properties on West Lane.”
A diversion will be in place for heavy vehicles and road closures will be in place on two days during the work.
In an effort to minimise disruption over the Christmas period, there will be a two-week break in the works from Friday, December 21 with work beginning again on Monday, January 7.
