Five petty criminals dealt with in Sunderland

Ian Maidment, 26, of Cirencester Street, Deptford, Sunderland, pleaded guilty to stealing hardware worth £33.50 from B&Q in Trimdon Street on January 16.

He also admitted driving a white Vauxhall Meriva in the B&Q carpark on the same day, while disqualified and without insurance.

He was jailed for eight weeks, suspended for 12 months, with 30 days’ specified activity and £85 costs, and was banned from driving for six months.

Jordon Storey, 25, of Pentland Close, Peterlee, pleaded guilty to causing £167 of criminal damage to a black Renault Megane in Washington on October 7, last year.

He was fined £80 and was told to pay compensation of £167, a victim surcharge of £20 and prosecution costs of £85.

John Ferguson, 42, of Villette Path, Hendon, Sudnerland, pleaded guilty to using threatening or abusive words or behaviour with intent to cause harassment, alarm or distress, on January 7. He was fined £40 and was told to pay victim surcharge of £20 and prosecution costs of £85.

Andrew McBride, 35, of Lingfield Close, Everton, admitted driving a silver van in Washington Road, Southwick, on January 17, with 108 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath – the legal limit being 35 microgrammes in breath. He was fined £680 and was told to pay a victim surcharge of £68 and prosecution costs of £85. He was also disqualified from driving for 23 months.

Lewis Wright, 24, of Laurel Grove, Hendon, Sunderland, pleaded guilty to driving a BMW 3-Series on Warwick Terrace, on January 16, with 77 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath – the legal limit being 35.

He was fined £120 and was told to pay victim surcharge of £20 and costs of £85. He was banned from driving for 18 months.
