A TURBO-CHARGED Wearside woman is on a mission to make the region fitter.
Debra de Luen from Sunderland was shocked to discover earlier this year that the North East is now officially the fattest region in the UK.
Debra, who runs Club Zest in Fulwell, has joined forces with fellow trainer, Claire Hanson from Northumberland, in a joint mission to make the area leaner, fitter and sexier.
According to the National Obesity Forum, 68 per cent of people in the North East are overweight or obese, followed by the West Midlands at 65.7 per cent.
So Debra and Claire, who coaches fitness and dance instructors all over the UK, are both determined to get the North East off its backside and moving.
Their first step on the road has been to mastermind the first ever North East Fitness Convention, Project Fit Expo, which will take place in Newcastle on Saturday and Sunday, November, 8 and 9. Project Fit Expo will offer demonstrations, taster sessions and master classes in brand new fitness programmes and dance routines and will be held at the University of Northumbria.
Debra said: “Hopefully Project Fit Expo will be a big wake up call to the region, as well as a really fun weekend for everyone. The event is for people of all ages from 16 onwards. The fitness routines are very simple, you don’t need to have any experience or knowledge just wear comfortable clothes, relax, and prepare to have a great time.”
Project Fit Expo will include almost 50 different types of fitness routines and dance taster sessions including fusion dance, zumba, burlesque, fit steps and jungle body.
